The Chamber of Reflections

The Chamber of Reflections constitutes the ultra silent place of a Lodge, where the Initiate only penetrates once in his life.

It is built in a hidden place, out of the knowledge of the craftsmen, carefully camouflaged, with a secret entrance, as small as possible, the “belly of the earth”, a cave, grotto or tomb.

The first part of the Initiation takes place in this chamber, which, for this reason, acquires great relevance. No one can be regularly Initiated if they do not spend a certain amount of time inside this chamber.

In general terms, we can describe it as an enclosure whose walls and ceiling are painted black; a rough table and bench; on the table, an hourglass, an inkwell, a human skull, a vessel with salt, a lighted candle and papers to fill; on the walls, strips of paper with inscriptions allusive to the act.

The candidate is introduced, blindfolded, into the enclosure; when the door is closed, there is no noise from outside.

Every Mason should, at least once, after the years, return to the Chamber of Reflections for an examination of conscience and be aware that he is, in fact, a Mason.
