The Chamber of Reflections

Image
The Chamber of Reflections constitutes the ultra silent place of a Lodge, where the Initiate only penetrates once in his life.      It is built in a hidden place, out of the knowledge of the craftsmen, carefully camouflaged, with a secret entrance, as small as possible, the “belly of the earth”, a cave, grotto or tomb.     The first part of the Initiation takes place in this chamber, which, for this reason, acquires great relevance. No one can be regularly Initiated if they do not spend a certain amount of time inside this chamber.     In general terms, we can describe it as an enclosure whose walls and ceiling are painted black; a rough table and bench; on the table, an hourglass, an inkwell, a human skull, a vessel with salt, a lighted candle and papers to fill; on the walls, strips of paper with inscriptions allusive to the act.     The candidate is introduced, blindfolded, into the enclosure; when the door is closed, there is no no...

The Compasses and the Eagle: A History of Freemasonry in Mexico.

Image
FREEMASONRY IN MEXICO: A HISTORY OF FRATERNITY AND SOCIAL CHANGE      Freemasonry, with its symbolism, rituals, and emphasis on brotherhood, has a rich and complex history across the globe. In Mexico, the story of Freemasonry is intertwined with the nation’s own tumultuous journey towards independence and the shaping of its political landscape. From clandestine beginnings to its influence on key figures and events, Freemasonry has left an indelible mark on Mexican society. Early Seeds of Influence (Late 18th - Early 19th Century):      The seeds of Freemasonry in Mexico were sown during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, largely through the influx of European ideas and individuals. As Spain’s colonial power began to wane, the ideals of Enlightenment thought, emphasizing reason and individual liberty, found fertile ground in the burgeoning intellectual circles of New Spain. Masonic lodges, often operating in secret, began to appear, initially attracting...

MY JOURNEY TO FREEMASONRY      I would like to share a brief personal story with you. My name is Luis Día, and I want to tell you how I started my journey in Freemasonry.      In November 2017, I had the opportunity to return to my homeland, Cuba, as an adult. I wanted to visit my relatives and recall my family's history. That's when I discovered that my grandfather and uncle were Master Masons. My uncle invited me to visit his Lodge, and I was impressed by the love and affection I received.      Although I couldn't return to the Lodge due to my return to the United States, my uncle's passing a few months later motivated me to investigate the mystery of Freemasonry. I searched for a Blue Lodge in my city and, upon finding it, I was received with the same love and respect I had experienced in Cuba.      This experience led me to ask: what is Freemasonry? Freemasonry is a philosophical, ethical, and worldwide membership orga...

Don Benito Juárez, illustrious freemason      Benito Juárez, as an illustrious Mason and tireless defender of justice, left us a legacy that transcends time and reminds us of the importance of fraternity, honor, and the struggle for the common good. His life teaches us that perseverance and constant study are powerful tools to illuminate our path in the pursuit of truth.     Just as he faced adversity with firmness and conviction, we, as Masons, must remain faithful to our principles, promoting equality, tolerance, and the progress of humanity. Freemasonry, like Juárez, calls us to be beacons of light in times of darkness, guiding by our example those who seek wisdom and justice.      Following Juárez's teachings, our mission is to build a world where reason and virtue are the pillars of society. In every temple and in every action, we must remember his famous maxim: "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the r...

My brothers, this month I will speak about the importance of Prudence, one of the four cardinal virtues, and a fundamental piece for becoming better man.       When we talk about prudence, we refer to the wise and cautious approach to decision making, actions, and speech.  It means to be mindful of the consequences of our actions while considering the well-being of others; avoiding harm or offense.      One may ask, how can I exercise prudence?  Well, it is simple: practice discretion with words and actions and avoid disclosing confidential information or be mindful when speaking about sensitive topics. When making a decision, consider the potential consequences and how it may impact others, and remember to distance yourself from impulsive behavior.  To exercise prudence, it implies cultivating wisdom by applying knowledge and experiences to make informed decisions.  Remember, prudence also involves showing respe...

The Begining: The basics       The Masonic square and compass: is a symbol with rich meaning within Freemasonry, representing morality, self-control, and the balance between the material and spiritual aspects of life. While the symbol itself isn't used in a literal, everyday sense, its principles can be applied to daily life in the following ways:   1. The Square: Symbol of Morality and Integrity   "Squaring our actions": Just as a square ensures accuracy and right angles in construction, it reminds us to be honest, fair, and upright in our dealings with others. This means acting with integrity, keeping our promises, and treating everyone with respect, regardless of their background or status.   "Getting a square deal": This phrase originates from the square's association with fairness. In daily life, it encourages us to be fair in our transactions, to seek justice, and to avoid taking advantage of others. 2. The Compasses: Symbo...

Benito Pablo Juárez García was a Mexican politician, military commander, and lawyer who served as the 26th president of Mexico from 1858 until his death in office in 1872. A Zapotec, he was the first Indigenous president of Mexico and the first democratically elected Indigenous president in the postcolonial Americas.  Born : March 21, 1806, San Pablo Guelatao, Mexico. Died : July 18, 1872 (age 66 years), National Palace, Mexico City, Mexico.      For many Mexican citizens, Benito Juarez remains the most highly regarded of presidents and to this day is the only Mexican president honored with the title of Benémerito de las Americas (Hero of the Americas). Born 1806 to Zapotec Indians, he received a basic seminary education and later graduated with a law degree from the Oaxacan Institute of Sciences and Arts. Juarez became known as an educator, lawyer, and member of the Oaxacan state legislature. After being elected to the national Chamber of Deputies, he emerged as a ...
